The Granton Village Board heard an update on the VOC stripper media at their meeting on Wednesday.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the stripper media has not yet been installed. They are working with Hawkins on the rust removal on the side walls and base. The village’s insurance company requested an appraisal be completed prior to the insurance renewal. The appraisal came back 44% higher than the previous appraisal. The village had multiple questions about the appraisal and the replacement values. The village had a conference call set up with the appraiser to discuss. The primary reason the replacement value is so high is that the appraisal includes engineer fees to redesign each building. The appraisal rep advised that they use specific data when putting together these quotes. The village requested examples of similar projects built in the area that would confirm this personal property appraisal. The village also requested they take a 2nd look at the personal property estimates.
The board also heard an update on the garbage contract. The United Communities met on July 22nd to discuss the renewal of the garbage contract. The committee questioned the Advanced Disposal rep about the rumors that they may be bought out and what would happen to the contract then. They were advised that if they got bought out, the new company would honor the renewed contracted. United Communities met and approved a 5 year renewal provided approval was given at the local level
