(WRN) -Invasive Asian Carp could do well if they make it into the Great Lakes.A newly released study says if Bighead and Silver carp reach Lake Michigan, they'll likely find enough food. Those carp have infested the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Some experts have questioned whether there’s enough plankton in Lake Michigan to sustain the invasive carp away from shoreline areas.
The lake has seen a drop-off in plankton caused by invasive mussels. But a report released Monday by University of Michigan scientists says the carp could feed on excrement from those same mussels. That illustrates the need to prevent the carp from getting into the lakes.
