Hixton Man Sentenced for Shooting Neighbor's Dog

-A Hixton man charged for shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog was sentenced in Jackson County Court on Monday.According to court records, on March 16th, Donald Chandler shot and killed his neighbor’s dog after it got loose from its chain. Chandler told authorities that the dog was out of control and crazy, but other neighbors said the dog wasn’t a problem. Chandler said he had meant to shoot to scare the dog away, but had hit it in the neck. He said it was a quick and stupid decision.
Chandler pleaded guilty to a charge of intentionally mistreating an animal. He was ordered to pay a $250 fine plus costs. He also has to pay $778 in restitution.
