Governor Evers and Wisconsin Democrats to Introduce Medicaid Expansion Bill

Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 -- 9:39 AM

(WRN) -Governor Tony Evers and legislative Democrats are set to introduce new bills to accept federal funding and expand Medicaid in Wisconsin.

Evers says he was disappointed that those provisions were pulled from the budget, but that he's not giving up.

"Covering more folks and saving Wisconsin tax dollars remains my top priority, and we are not giving up. We know that 70 percent of the people of Wisconsin support expanding Medicaid and bringing federal dollars back to the state."

It's a provision that was taken out of Evers' budget by Republicans earlier this year. Evers says this will give Republicans a chance to make things right.

"We know the Legislature did not listen to the people of Wisconsin. That they did not listen when folks called or sent emails or showed up. Now they have an opportunity to fix that."

Democrats say the state is losing out on funding that already belongs to Wisconsin, and that accepting federal dollars will save the state 320 million dollars over the next two years.
