Owen City Council Discusses Trail Grant

-The Owen City Council discussed a trail grant at their meeting last week.The City of Owen was fortunate enough to have received a trail grant to finish paving the walking trail from the bridge on the north side of the Mill Pond to Lehnen Street. Also, the stretch behind Dollar General will be paved. The council approved the payment of $3,000 to Cedar Corporation for putting together the bid package for the Millpond Trail Connector Project, including spending one day on site. The council also heard loan updates. It was reported the loan to cover Revenue Bond Series 20219A and 2019B, paying off all loans, including Heartland, was finalized July 16, 2019. This will benefit the City by increasing their General Fund borrowing capacity.
Finally, the council approved the temporary street closure at 234 N Central Ave on August 10, 2019 for the 2nd Annual Customer Appreciation celebration at the L.A.S.T. Ace. During the Public Opinion portion of the meeting, America in Bloom Judges spoke quite highly of the community. ‘America in Bloom’ is a national organization that strives to help cities, like Owen, be a more welcoming community. As a CN Grant community, Owen is a participant in this program. The council also approved an operator’s license.
