Wisconsin's Total Cheese Production Went Down in June

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin's total cheese production went down once again in June when compared to the same time last year, making it the seventh consecutive month of lower output.The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that state dairy plants made 279 million pounds of cheese during June Dairy Month, which was down 0.7 percent from a year earlier, and 2.2 percent lower than this past May, which had more days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.07 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in June.
That was a slight 0.6 percent increase over 2018, but 3.3 percent less than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 24.2 million pounds, which was down 11.6 percent from last year, and 2.9 percent less compared to last month.
