-With the Clark County Fair just a couple weeks away, Clark County will soon have a new Fairest of the Fair.Dana Bautch, the outgoing Fairest of the Fair, talked about her year as Fairest of the Fair, her time competing at the state level and her advice for this year’s candidates.
“This year has been amazing! Ever since being crowned last year, we have gotten to go to so many different events and benefits and everything. Parades. And it’s been an amazing experience getting to meet everybody and travel around the county and get to know everybody.”
“In January, I went down to the Dells and competed along with 42 other fairest for the title of Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair. It didn’t even feel like a competition because we spent the week learning about different ways to be able to represent and promote our fairs, but also how to help our fair boards and come with different ways to help our program and the fair itself. So, it was an amazing experience to go down there and meet all those girls and make connections that I’ll have for a lifetime now.”
“I would tell the candidates to not worry about if it’s going to take too much time. It is a big time commitment, but they should really embrace it. It does take a lot of time and effort, but it’s really worth it. You get to meet so many different people and do so many different things. It’s truly worth it and I encourage them to give it their all.”
Of the two candidates running for Fairest of the Fair this year, one is a returning candidate. Janalee Kapusta will be running again. Janalee is a Neillsville High School graduate and is in her final semester of the UW-Animal Behavior College. She is the lead veterinary assistant at the Clark County Humane Society’s Fixapet organization. When she graduates, she would like to move back home and open her own clinic. She also is the Assistant Banquet Manager at the American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville and the Second Vice President of the American Legion Post 73 Women’s Auxiliary. She has many other impressive items on her resume that make her qualified to run for Fairest of the Fair. Janalee talked about why she’s running again, how her time on the court has helped her and what she’s looking forward to this next year.
“I just love the opportunities that it gives me. I get to go out in my community and other communities and support the fair. And just try to bring new things every year and try and get people to the fair.”
“I’ve definitely gained a lot of experience being on the Fairest of the Fair court for the past couple years now. I think I’ve grown as a person too, just by being more outgoing and getting to a lot of different events that I had never been to at all. So, I definitely think I grew into a better person.”
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the other courts and getting to know the other candidate running. It’s great making relationships with them and making long lasting friendships.”
The new candidate running this year is Chelsea Stuttgen of Colby. She’s a Colby High School graduate and has completed 3 years at UW-Stout. She’s attending school for Early Childhood Education with a Spanish minor. She hopes to teach Kindergarten or 1st grade in a school with non-native speakers. Eventually, she would like to open an in-home daycare before expanding to a licensed community daycare. She’s currently working at Weathershield before she returns to school and she volunteers with various activities. She has many other impressive items on her resume that qualifies her to run for Fairest of the Fair. Chelsea talked about why she’s running, how her experiences will help her and what she’s looking forward to this next year.
“I decided to run for Fairest of the Fair because I thought it would be a great experience and to help me grow as a person and expand, but also be involved in the fair.”
“I think they taught me to be professional and to be confident in myself and to be more outgoing in meeting new people.”
“I’m looking forward to meeting new people and engaging with the fair goers and getting them excited about the fair.”
The Fairest of the Fair competition is taking place on Wednesday, August 7th at 7pm in the Show Arena at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Neillsville.
