(WRN) -Republican leadership in the legislature and the state's ag secretary are trading missives over a funding package designed to help farmers get mental health treatment. On Tuesday, State Ag Secretary-designee Brad Pfaff issued a statement saying that Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee were neglecting farmers by delaying funding for the program. He claimed that there was currently just enough money for five vouchers and that Republicans ought to choose which farmers got the vouchers. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald called those comments flippant and inflammatory and that it makes light of suicides.
Pfaff responded by saying that this is not a partisan issue, but an emotional one, and that the funding should already be released to DATCP rather than sitting in an account handled by Joint Finance.
