(WRN) -Seven hundred fifty dollars a day. That's how much Wisconsin congressman Mark Pocan says operators are being per day, for each migrant child being held at privately owned facility in Homestead, Florida
"There is no way I can understand how it's 750 dollars a day per child in these kind of facilities, when I think you could stay at the Trump Hotel or the Four Seasons for less than that. This is warehousing of children in defense of an indefensible policy."
Pocan says he recently visited a privately run facility housing migrant kids in Florida, and questions why the camp operators are being paid 750 dollars per child, per day
"There are not the same condition horror stories as some of the facilities in Texas, but nonetheless at 750 dollars a day a child, we're not getting I think the proper care for our taxpayer dollars."
Pocan says he did not observe the same "condition horror stories" seen at facilities in Texas, but questions whether kids are receiving proper care for the tax money being spent. Pocan says the policy of separating migrant kids from their families is an "indefensible policy."
