BRF MAN SENTENCED FOR KILLING
Wednesday, February 2nd, 2005 -- 11:06 AM
A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing another man to death in the assailant's home last June. Michael Gromoff of rural Black River Falls gave a tearful statement before his sentencing Monday, expressing remorse and claiming he had ongoing problems with alcohol. Gromhoff pleaded no contest Dec. 8 to second-degree reckless homicide in the June 19 death of 32-year-old Tyrone L. Decorah of Merrillan. Jackson County District Attorney Anna Becker had urged an eight-year prison term for Gromoff, with two years of extended supervision, while defense attorney John Bachman asked for six years in prison and six years of supervision. But Jackson County Circuit Judge Gerald Laabs disagreed with both recommendations, citing Gromoff's lengthy criminal record before the stabbing, including three assaults. Besides the prison term, the judge also ordered Gromoff to serve five years of extended supervision.Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
