(WDLB) -A long-awaited addition to Marshfield's Y-M-C-A is officially open.Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held yesterday for the new facilities along West McMillan Street. Mayor Bob Mcmanus said the state-of-the-art additions are a tribute to a community that works together towards a common dream. Officials at the "Y" first broke ground for the project in August of 2017. The expansion and renovation brings together a healthy living center, strength-training facility, fieldhouse, multi-generational community room, a new welcome center and much more. Y-M-C-A Board Chairman Dave Meissner said the project is a dream come true.
The nearly 16-million dollar project features the new Everett & Dolores Roehl Youth Center, a new fitness center, childcare facilities, and the new 20-thousand square-foot Roehl Fieldhouse--which includes three full-sized basketball courts and enough room to play indoor soccer. Y-M-C-A C-E-O John Nystrom said the ribbon-cutting was a celebration of the revitalization of the "Y", in the wake of the partnership first announced in 2016 between the "Y" and the Marshfield Clinic Health System.
Marshfield Clinic Health System C-E-O Dr. Susan Turney said partnering with the Y-M-C-A on the project was an obvious choice, when it comes to caring for the community as a whole. The newly constructed and renovated Y-M-C-A opened on March 11th. Tours of the facility are available.
