Better Business Bureau Warns About Scams Targeting Home Improvement Contractors

(WRN) -The Better Business Bureau is warning businesses about a recent scam targeting home improvement contractors in Northern Wisconsin.Spokeswoman Susan Bach says it started with texts.
"They receive a text message from the Chicago or Northern Illinois area codes requesting a quote for a home improvement service."
Bach from the Better Business Bureau says in both cases, someone from Illinois tried to hire the companies to do work on houses that turned out to be vacant or for sale.
"This is a classic overpayment scam where the scammer is going to send the business owner for over the amount and they ask the business owner to deposit the check and then send the overpayment amount back to them"
That check is, of course, going to bounce, but not before the scammers get their money. Neither business took the bait.
