Chair of State Democratic Party Weighs in on Former Governor's New Job

Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 -- 7:43 AM

(WRN) -The chair of the state Democratic party weighs in on Scott Walker's new job.

Ben Wikler says the defeated governor's new gig with the conservative group Young America’s Foundation.makes sense.

"Republicans are right to worry about young people, 'cause the rising generations are the most progressive in the history of American polling."

Walker insists he won't be a candidate for U-S Senate in 2022. Wikler notes he's broken promises about seeking higher office before.

"And I'm not even thinking about taking Walker off the list of potential Republican contenders for the 2022 Senate seat."

Wikler says he'll have his work cut out for him.

"The problem that Walker's trying to solve in his new job is that young people know Republican ideas fail. And I think it will be a challenge to sell the snake oil to a generation of people who are used to debunking on social media."

Wikler hopes Walker's new employers have a good contract.

"In October of 2014, weeks before his election to a second term, he said 'my plan is if the people of the state of Wisconsin elect me on November 4th, is to be here for four years. It's a position I'm committed to.' And he launched his campaign for president eight months later."

Walker announced Monday that he'll be leading Young America’s Foundation when that group's current president steps down in 2021.
