(WRN) -More than a million dollars worth of grants are now available to help get people into homes and improve their lives. The state's low income housing agency is looking to distribute over a million dollars in grants to nonprofits around Wisconsin. Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority spokesman Kevin Fischer says the programs are aimed at helping the homeless, veterans, runaway youth and domestic abuse victims.
"These can literally be lifesavers for the people who they help with their services."
Fischer says the sorts of projects that get these grants are ones that can change lives for non profits and low income families.
"Remodelling of a community room kitchen at a property in Green Bay, the replacement of a concrete wheelchair ramp and a handicapped accessible door at a Madison apartment building."
Fischer says a million dollars worth of grants are available to non profit groups this year.
"There's a high demand and a high need that we have in Wisconsin, that we must address. And we're trying to do that, annually, with these foundation grant awards."
The Foundation has distributed over 21 million dollars in grants since 1983. To apply for these grants, visit W H E D A dot Com.
