(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Farmers and rural electric cooperatives that invest in biogas technology could receive special tax incentives under a bill being co-sponsored by Rep. Ron Kind. The Agricultural Environmental Stewardship Act aims to help incentivize investment in digester and nutrient recovery technologies on dairy farms by assisting farmers in addressing environmental challenges such as nutrient run-off and farm odors while creating marketable commodities. New York Rep. Tom Reed is the other co-sponsor of the measure. He says dairy producers must find a cost-effective way to use processes that are environmentally friendly.
Specifically, the legislation promotes investment by allowing biodigesters to qualify for an energy tax credit that is on-par with the 30-percent tax credit for solar energy. This will allow for Wisconsin dairy farms to have affordable access installation of biodigesters on their farms.
