(WRN) -House Democrats have sent this year's Defense Authorization bill to the Senate. (Raymond Neupert)House Democrats have sent this year's Defense Authorization bill to the Senate. Congressman Ron Kind says they're looking for some more oversight and more information into just what the military is doing in the war on terrorism.
"Greater oversight and transparency when it comes to arms transfers, and our policy as it relates to Afghanistan and Syria right now."
Kind says he voted for the bill because it will require stricter justifications on just what it is the military is doing in the global war on terror.
"We need further clarification from the administration. There are negotiations taking place in Afghanistan with the Taliban forces there. We're trying to get more information on where that's going."
Kind says he's concerned because Eau Claire based National Guard members are headed out on another deployment.
"Some of them for the second and third time. Over thirty percent of the deployment personnel this year have been to Afghanistan before, and now we're sending them back again."
Kind says this should be very important to Wisconsinites as members of the Wisconsin National Guard head to Afghanistan, some for the second or third time in their career. The bill asks for greater oversight in how our troops time is being spent and just what the end goal is for the Pentagon.
