Owen City Council Approves Moving Forward with Sale of Lot

-The Owen City Council approved moving forward with the sale of a lot for a duplex at their meeting last week.The council approved send the offer to purchase Lot 9 in the Countryside Estates to the Planning Commission and then to Zoning. If the purchase is approved, a single level duplex will be built. The council also heard some loan updates. The loan of $4,084,000 to cover Revenue Bond Series 20219A and 2019B, paying off all the cities loans, including Heartland, and the 2019 Street Project, will be finalized July 16th. The Council also heard the Police Report. The Owen-Withee Police Chief reported that he’s having difficulty getting applicants for the part-time officer position and is currently looking into hiring a Clark County Deputy to help enforce ordinances.
Finally, the council heard the Community Development Authority’s Report. Tim Swiggum noted the editing of the Comprehensive Plan must be completed before the next council meeting. July 20th is the date of the Street Dance and Mauel’s Ice Cream 100th birthday party. Right after the Street Dance on the 22nd, the America In Bloom judges will be in Owen. It was another successful year for the Owen Jr Fair. In spite of the weather on Sunday, the House of Friends still served enough chicken to cover the cost of their insurance needed to continue their after-school program at the Old School.
