Showcasing Neillsville's History at Heritage Days
Friday, July 12th, 2019 -- 12:21 PM
-It wouldn’t be Heritage Days without a strong showing for Neillsville’s Heritage, which includes a display by the Mormon Loggers and Church of Latter Day Saints.I spoke with Joseph Callie and he talked about the history of the loggers in the Neillsville area and much more. He talked about some of the items you’ll find at their display at Heritage Days.
"We represent the Church of Latter Day Saints and we set up a tent with posters and pictures showing the things did during the history of Neillsville. It shows the type of equipment they used and the huge rafts that they built. It's a whole history and then the hardships of coming and going."
He also talked about a neat family history program they’ll be offering at the event.
"Tied in with Heritage Days in the tent is the Family History Program. We set up computers and we invite people in to set up family trees for them. We have special software and we help them get started looking for their ancestors. And the church offers free services for anyone looking to come in and learn about their family. They don't have to pay for it. Now, I'm not talking about the DNA testing, but generally you can get a lot of information and we help them do that."
The display will be available to see at Neillsville’s Heritage Days.
