Public Works Report at More at Neillsville City Council Meeting

-The Neillsville City Council heard the Public Works Report at their meeting on Tuesday.

The usual amount of work was done in the city including two burials at the Cemetery, equipment maintenance, mowing and trimming Cemetery and parks, picking up branches, preparing ballfields, Schuster Park South restroom is complete except for door closures, trimming and pruning trees, maintaining street lighting, filling potholes, hauling brush and compost, street sweeping and more. They’re also having difficulties with Viking Electric in ordering the light poles for the Schuster Park walkway project and the Sewer Department has started installing manholes and sewer main on Willow Street from E. Sixth Street to E. Seventh Street. Also, the Contractor planted 14 replacement trees that were under warranty as part of the Emerald Ash Borer Tree Grant. They also did some ATV trail sign maintenance and they started construction on the Willow Street project with surveying being done. Wisconsin Gas is moving their gas lines in the area, sewer work is in progress and then the road base will be rebuilt. They also did some saw cutting of street patch areas for new asphalt, replaced 100 feet of curb and gutter in front of the Unity Bank, removed two trees and several large branches caused by high winds and street painting.

Finally, a walk through with Health Officer Bakker of the old hotel was done and a package of information was turned over to the Police Department for citation action and they did set up of the Heritage Days event. The board also heard the Officer’s Report from Interim Chief Patrick Fehlman. For the month of June, the department had 144 complaints, 116 service calls, 43 traffic citations, 61 traffic warnings, 9 crash investigations, 7 ordinance citations, 12 adult arrests, 1 cases referred to the district attorney’s office, 8 juvenile cases and 19 parking citations. He also stated the Chevy Tahoe has been repaired and is back in service. Finally, during the appearances portion of the meeting, a resident asked on the status of hiring a new Chief of Police.
