-For the seventh year in a row, the Humane Society of the United States is publishing a list of 100 problem puppy mills and dog sellers and a local establishment has made the list. The 2019 Horrible Hundred is a list of problem dealers in the United States that the HSUS is aware of, published annually to warn consumers about common problems at puppy mills and to urge government oversight agencies to live up to their enforcement obligations. This isn’t even the list of worst establishments, as many aren’t even inspected and operate in secrecy. Mapleview Kennels of Loyal has made the list. According to the Horrible Hundred List, the state refused to renew the license of the breeder due to dogs without water, poor grooming and inadequate housing for dogs with dogs running into the road.
News Channel 7 did reach out to the owners of Mapleview Kennels, Kim and Glenn Gostomski, and they provided their side of the store. They said they were in the process of cleaning out the dog bowls when the inspector arrived and stated the dogs have no water. Regarding the matted fur, she said they refuse to groom their dogs in the winter because they need the fur to stay warm. As for dogs having inadequate housing and running into the road, she said she allows her dogs to run and have fun.
She also said that she considers her dogs like children and she has many happy buyers that will only purchase from her. Mapleview Kennels is no longer licensed by the state, but they are still able to sell 24 dogs per year. They still have an active website with photos of puppies available.
