-A Clark County Land Conservationist suggests that you plant something in your fields to help avoid soil erosion.According to the UW-Extension Newsletter, the conservationist says that leaving fields devoid of vegetation for another 12 months will lead to soil erosion. He also says weeds are not ideal as they will build up your soils weed bank. He suggests a better option would be to no-till in some annual rye, oats or maybe some clover. In the case of clover, it would provide some erosion protection and provide nitrogen for next year’s crop. There seem to be more no-till drills for rent in the county by private individuals.
Finally, he mentioned that if you have an abandoned well, the conservation department has cost sharing and engineering services that can assist in its proper closure and you can contact the Land Conservation Department if you’re interested.
