Neillsville School Board Reviews Letter from Parent Concerned About How Threat Was Handled

Tuesday, June 25th, 2019 -- 9:40 AM

-The Neillsville School Board heard some grievances, via letter, at their meeting last week.

During District Administrator John Gaier’s report, he shared a letter from a parent concerned about how the district handled a recent threat situation at the school district. Back in May, a situation involving a student who made a threat against students at the district came to light when information about the incident began to spread around the community. All though the district followed protocol in regards to the threat, many parents in the community were upset with the district for not sharing more information with them. After reviewing some concerns shared by parents in the community via letter, the district reviewed its policy for threats against students and the district.

The letter criticized the school for its lack of transparency and criticized the Neillsville Police Department for pulling people over by the district. In the future, the district will be more transparent and forthcoming with parents. The student who made the threat against the district had an initial appearance in Clark County Court last week. A $1,000 cash bond and $9,000 signature bond was set against him. He’ll be back in court next week.
