Plenty to Do in the Black River Falls Area

Friday, June 21st, 2019 -- 1:20 PM

-As we continue on with summer in Wisconsin, there’s plenty of stuff happening in the Black River Falls area.

I spoke with Black River Falls Chamber Director, Amanda Gunn, and she talked about an event happening this weekend and other events happening over the next couple weeks.

“This weekend is the Alma Center Strawberry Festival and that’s taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Alma Center. They have a whole different variety of activities going on including a fun run, baseball, tractor rides, volleyball, parade, they have different bands going on at night on Saturday. Also, they have a big antique and collectible car show going on all day on Sunday from 9am-4pm.”

“All that is happening right in Alma Center. And they do have different carnival rides there too and then there’s also a strawberry shortcake stand, so you can get some really good strawberry shortcake in Alma Center.”

“Coming up for the 4th, there are a few different fireworks displays going on. Melrose has a 4th of July fireworks display every year that’s really great. There’s also going to be fireworks taking place over Lake Arbutus in Hatfield. On July 6th, it’s the Festival Park here in Lunda Park in Black River Falls. There’s going to be all sorts of activities in the afternoon, a magician will be on the stage that night along with a headliner band and then there will be a big fireworks display at the park.”

Amanda also reminded outdoor enthusiasts to check out all of their outdoor recreation opportunities.

“We have our ATV Trail System and that is open and very, very popular. And ATVs and UTVs can ride on the trails. There’s also a lot of different hiking opportunities in the state forest. We also have Wazee Lake, which is a beautiful lake here. It’s a man-made lake. It actually used to be an old iron mine. It’s beautiful crystal, clear water and white-sand beaches. It’s really great to go and take your kayak or canoe and paddle around. There are also different fishing opportunities and you can paddle down the Black River too. So, there’s always something to do in our area.”

Finally, Amanda ended our interview by reminded people to mark their calendars for the Karner Blue Butterfly Festival and Races.

“Coming up on July 20th, it’s the Karner Blue Festival and Karner Blue Races and those will be happening all day, the races are in the morning and the festival is all day in downtown Black River Falls. And also, we’ll actually be having the SQHR World Horse Show at our fairgrounds that same weekend, July 19th-21st. And spectators are welcome to come attend that. There’s going to be hundreds and hundreds of horses here at the fairgrounds. So, just plan a trip down here and enjoy those events.”
