Reports and More at Owen City Council Meeting
Tuesday, June 18th, 2019 -- 11:47 AM
-The Owen City Council heard the Police Report at their meeting last week. The Police Chief also noted the city should clarify their ATV/UTV ordinance and install more signage. Also, there is a discrepancy in certain street addresses around town that need to be addressed. The council also heard the Treasurers’ Report and the City Clerk provided some answers regarding the budget. The street light account had been inadvertently added into the City Hall Account and water supplies account entries were also dispersed to correct accounts per the Director of Public Works. The council also heard the Public Works Report. A representative of Cedar Corp was also present and explained the increase of $94,738 in the cost of the 2019 Street Renovation Project was due to little or no base being under North Street and Melbinger and more of the curb and gutter needing to be replaced then was originally planned. It was determined the council had previously approved putting the project out to bids.
Cedar Corp also explained to the council that, unbeknownst to them, Heartland had dug a ditch and already installed one of their rail spurs over one of the city’s water mains. Three different proposals were presented, one from Heartland and two from Cedar Corp. The council approved allowing Heartland to choose either of the two proposals from Cedar Corp to rectify this problem. The Public Works Director concurred that either of the Cedar Corp solutions were acceptable and the Heartland proposal was not. As Heartland had not done their due diligence, the council feels this project should be done at Heartland’s cost.
