Governor Evers Not Ready to Make Any Veto Decisions

Tuesday, June 18th, 2019 -- 8:41 AM

(WRN) -Governor Evers says he's not ready to make a decision on what sorts of vetos might be coming for the budget.

Governor Evers says he's not ready to make a decision on what sorts of vetos might be coming for the budget. At a press conference for Pride Month on Monday, Evers says a budget hasn't even been decided.

"Certainly we're looking at all the things that have been passed, and certainly there's lots of things that we have concerns about, but at the end of the day we won't be making any decisions until we look at what comes out of both houses."

Evers also says he's concerned about safety, but wants to be kept in the loop after the Joint Finance Committee approved a safety study for the Capitol. Evers says he's surprised that Republicans decided not to include Democrats in the discussion.

"And frankly the city of Madison, who provides a lot of safety to this Capitol. But aside, looking at safety is always an important thing and communicating about it should have been a little bit better."

Evers says Republican plans to pay for road repairs by increasing fees for Wisconsinites make less sense than an increased gas tax.

"People from Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, aren't paying for using our roads. It just doesn't make any sense to me. But again that's something... that's just my personal view of doubling the fees or more."

Evers also says he'll be waiting to make any decisions on vetos or partial vetos in the Republican budget until it clears both chambers of the Legislature and makes it to his desk.
