-The Neillsville City Council heard the Sanitary Wastewater Capacity Analysis from MSA during the Public Works portion of their meeting last week. The study was regarding whether Neillsville’s existing wastewater treatment facility and sanitary sewer collection system can handle the new capacity that would result due to the new medical campus coming to Neillsville from Marshfield Medical Center. According to the report, the wastewater treatment facility has excess hydraulic capacity to treat the wastewater load from the new facility. The sanitary sewer collection system has the capacity to handle the wastewater load with the exception of the sanitary sewer main on Highway 10 and Clay Street north of 1st Street. The available data did not allow a determination of the capacity of the sanitary sewer collection system in that area.
To put simply, Neillsville facilities and system can handle what the new hospital would produce. However, MSA did recommend that the city survey the collection system at Highway 10 and Clay Street, more specifically, the interceptor sewer running along the O’Neil Creek to the main pumping station to confirm the pipe inverts and the pipe slopes. Also, the said the city should have Wold Architects and Engineers provide an estimate of the wastewater strength expect from the facility.
