-The Owen-Withee School Board approved changing the grading system for grades 3-5 at their meeting last week. After hearing a presentation regarding the topic, the board continued the discussion and, on a unanimous voice vote, the board approved the change to the standards-based grading beginning with the 2019-20 school year. The board then continued to discuss the topic from the other presentation and, on a unanimous voice vote, they approved the purchase of the ARC Reading program on a three year plan. Also, after negotiations with the OWEA, who have previously approved the agreement, the board approved a wage increase of 2.25% on the base wage and a 1% increase on the supplemental wage for the teachers group. The increase of 2.25%, which had been earlier approved by the support staff group, was approved by the board as well.
The board also approved membership in the WIAA for the 2019-20 school year for the high school and junior high school. Finally, the board reviewed information regarding the replacement of 15 of the oldest Smart Boards they have in the building. The cost of the 15 new panels will be roughly $45,000. A three year lease at 0% interest was approved so the annual cost will be just under $15,000 for the next three years. The board approved the purchase on a voice vote.
