(WDLB) -Plans for a new hotel in Marshfield will move forward after all.Mayor Bob McManus and realtor Rita Blenker of Century 21 Gold Key Realty have confirmed the sale of the former Knights of Columbus Hall at 400 W. Upham Street to Growth Motels-Oshkosh LLC for 365-thousand dollars. McManus said the sale closed this morning, and it’s great news for the city. Blenker says owner Dave Wogernese still plans to construct an 86-room Hampton Inn & Suites on the three-and-a-half acre site.
Wogernese earlier this year presented the same plans, but under the name Prairie Lodging LLC. Blenker and Mayor McManus both confirmed it’s the same project and owner, but just operating under a different name. Blenker said Wogernese wants to start construction in early fall, with completion scheduled for 2020. The four-story hotel will feature a pool, but no hot tub and no restaurant. Blenker said the property would feature a small gift shop as well.
Back in March, the same project was presented for consideration of tax-incremental financing through the city, but the Common Council said “no”. Blenker said her client remained interested despite the lack of public financing.
