Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation Investigating Officer Involved Death in Wood County

(Hub City Times) -The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer involved death in the village of Arpin.

Wood County Sheriff Deputies responded to a welfare check the evening of June 11 at a residence on State Highway 186 in Arpin. While conducting an evaluation of the subject, the individual ran back into the residence and obtained a knife. A struggle ensued and the subject was shot by law enforcement. Authorities performed lifesaving measures but the subject succumbed to the injuries at the scene. A Wood County Sheriff’s deputy was shot during the incident and has non-life-threatening injuries; the deputy was transported to a local hospital. He is in stable condition. Another civilian was injured during the incident and was transported to the hospital. The civilian is also in stable condition.

DCI is leading this investigation, and is assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Arpin Police Department, Grand Rapids Police Department, Marshfield Police Department, Nekoosa Police Department, Pittsville Police Department, and Wisconsin Rapids Police. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of Crime Victim Services is providing services to the family of the deceased. All involved law enforcement has been fully cooperating with DCI during the investigation. DCI is continuing its investigation and will turn over reports to a local district attorney’s office. No other details have been made available.
