(Marshfield News Herald) -This year's Paws For Brittany 2.3 mile fun run/dog walk raised more than $11,000 for the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, and paid a special tribute to one of the event's founders, who passed away earlier this year. The annual fundraiser, which benefits the pet shelter, was created to honor the memory of Brittany Zimmermann, a Marshfield animal lover and advocate who was murdered on April 2, 2008 while attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and who's case remains unsolved. This year's event, held on May 11 in Wildwood Park & Zoo, drew 215 attendees and their pets, and raised $11,500 to help the pet shelter with operating and staffing expenses, according to a news release from the shelter.
Besides introducing a new bake sale, raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle, this year's event kicked-off with a special tribute to one of its beloved founders, Duane Kulke, another "huge animal lover" from Marshfield, who unexpectedly passed away earlier this year. Sometime this year, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter plans to break ground on a new facility that will bring both of its locations under one roof, according to Rau. She says that the pet shelter will announce further information about their new building project at a later date.
