Wisconsin's Total Cheese Production Down

Wisconsin's total cheese production went down once again in April when compared to the same time last year, making it the fifth consecutive month of lower output.Wisconsin Ag Connection reports that the latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that state dairy plants made 279.4 million pounds of cheese in April, which was down 2.1 percent from a year earlier, and 4.6 percent lower than this past March, which had more days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.08 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in April.
That was a fractional 0.2 percent increase over 2018, but 3.6 percent less than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 20.6 million pounds, which was down 30.0 percent from last year, but 13 percent less compared to last month.
