JFC Rejects Electric Car Charging Stations in Wisconsin

Friday, June 7th, 2019 -- 8:41 AM

(AP) -Republicans on the Legislature’s finance committee have erased a plan in Gov. Tony Evers’ state budget that called for spending $10 million on electric car charging stations.

Wisconsin was part of multistate settlements in 2016 and 2017 with Volkswagen that resolved allegations the car maker used special software in its vehicles to circumvent emission standards. The state is in line to receive $25 million over the next two years. Evers proposed spending $15 million to replace public buses and $10 million to install charging stations for electric cars.

Republicans revised the proposal Thursday, dedicating $3 million to help school districts replace buses. The remaining $22 million could be used to replace state vehicles and public buses. The committee approved 12-4 vote. All four Democrats on the panel voted against it.
