(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -With the signup period for the new Dairy Margin Coverage program beginning on June 17, the University of Wisconsin-Extension has put together some resources to help farmers consider sign-up strategies for their operations.UW-Madison Dairy Profitability Director Mark Stephenson says producers who elect a DMC coverage level between $9 and $9.50 would be eligible for a payment for January, February, March and April 2019. Farmers can utilize an informative video, chart the current forecasted margin, and access the DMC decision making tool online at https://dairymarkets.org/DMC/ DMC, which replaces the Margin Protection Program for Dairy, offers protection to dairy producers when the difference between the all milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer. Premiums are paid annually.
Meanwhile, the UW-Extension is holding DMC information meetings around the state. To learn more about those meetings, or for other resources to help make decisions on your dairy, contact your local Farm Service Agency office.
