Thursday, June 6th, 2019 -- 10:57 AM
-The Granton Village Board discussed the Romadka Avenue and Highway K intersection at their meeting on Monday.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the village needs to decide whether or not to pursue changing the intersection of Romadka and county K to a four way stop. The county will be repaving County K in the next couple of years and if the village wants to tackle that project it would have to be at the same time since K will be torn up. The board is waiting to hear from the highway commissioner if funding is available before deciding. This discussion was postponed until July. The board also approved the stripper media replacement at a cost of $1,500 for tower maintenance. They were presented a sample of stripper media corroded with rust and mineral deposits and showed how brittle they are. The board also approved several liquor and operator licenses, some pending payment.
The board also discussed the garbage contract. The village belongs to the United Communities Organization and they collectively contract garbage and recycling pick up. It was advised that Thorp and Curtiss opted out of the organization. Advance Disposal was bought out by Waste Management and the new owners will be presenting information at the next United Communities meeting. Finally, the Granton Village President stated he was appointed the President of the United Communities Organization.
