Rotary Club of Black River Falls' May Youth Rotars

Thursday, June 6th, 2019 -- 8:45 AM

-Emma Goodenough and Sydney Sampson-Webb were the May Youth Rotars for the Rotary Club of Black River Falls.

Both are seniors at the Black River Falls High School. Youth Rotars are selected by their school and Rotary as representatives of “good citizens” in both their school and their community. Youth Rotars spend one month attending the Rotary Club’s meetings and give reports on school events. At their last meeting, they are presented with the Black River Falls Rotary Club’s flag. The Youth Rotar Program runs from September through May with two representatives each month, except the month of December.

Emma is the daughter of Kathy and Tom Goodenough. She has one brother and one dog. In school, Emma is involved in the National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, Golf and is the Boy’s Hockey Manager. She currently works at Black River Falls Studio 107. Outside of school and work she enjoys being outside, golfing, playing with her dog and spending time with family and friends. Emma plans on attending University of Minnesota ??" Duluth to major in Biology with a goal of attending medical school to become a doctor. When asked about her time as a Youth Rotar, Emma said, “During my month as a Youth Rotar, I was able to hear about the Foreign Exchange Program and learn about the Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Club presentation really stood out to me because of the difference that this club makes in the lives of many children. Being a part of this also helped me communicate with members of the community that I may not have been able to talk to without this experience. I also was able to learn more about public speaking and improve my skills by talking in front of the group each week.”

Sydney is the daughter of Susan Sampson and the late David Webb. She has three dogs and a cat. In school, Sydney is the Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, Art Club President, GM97 producer, Class of 2019 Secretary and Valedictorian, the 2018-2019 Falls History Project Intern and is also a Marketing Youth Apprentice through the High School’s Young Apprentice program. She is also involved in National Honor Society, Tiger Investment Club and Student Senate. She works as a waitress at Castle Hill Supper Club and also works for the School District of Black River Falls as a Social Media/Public Relations Intern. In her free time she enjoys baking, cake decorating, writing, photography, drawing, pottery, going to concerts and traveling. After graduation, Sydney plans on attending UW-Milwaukee to major in Marketing and earn a certificate in Entrepreneurship. She would like to open a bakery in downtown Black River Falls after graduating from college. When asked about her time as a Youth Rotar, Sydney said, “During my time as a Youth Rotar, I learned a lot about the importance of community. The Rotary Club helps unite local businesses in Black River Falls and does a lot for the town, whether it be by sponsoring exchange students or by putting on the athletic banquet. Rotary is filled with what I would call "do-ers" in our community who put others above themselves and work to make Black River Falls a better place.”

The Rotary Club of Black River Falls is part of an organization dedicated to improving the lives of people all over the world. Its purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards and to advance goodwill and peace throughout the world. The Club meets every Monday at noon at the Skyline Golf Course. For more information visit www.brfrotary.org or find the club on Facebook.
