Granton Village Board Discusses Sidewalk Repair

-The Granton Village board heard an update on business and residential sidewalks at their meeting on Monday.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the board discussed the condition of the sidewalks and how to proceed with repairs. Last year, the village replaced the sidewalk on ΒΌ of a block, with the raffle money, for $7,000. An entire block is $28,000. The sidewalks are the responsibility of the land owner, but the village would like to help if the budget numbers allow. A motion to designate $5,000 toward sidewalk replacement was approved. For starters, the village will work with people who have money and want to repair their sidewalks. Sidewalk owners can submit a bid for sidewalk replacement to the Village Board for review. If approved, the village will pay for 50% of the sidewalk repair. Money available will be on a first come basis and with board approval. The clerk will put the information in the July newsletter. Sidewalks identified as a danger may take precedent and if landowners cannot afford their 50% the village will assess the property for the repair.
The village also discussed concrete raising and a possibility for cheaper repair. The first concern is with the business sidewalk in front of the Hitch n Rail. The clerk contacted 3 companies for a price quote. DBS will be coming to the village July 12th to give them a quote on raising the sidewalks. The board also heard an update on campground compliance. The Department of Ag met with the village on June 3rd to inspect the campground. The village needs to have a water supply closer to the campground and 2 more port-a-potties. Tent sites need to be marked and a map provided for emergencies. The sanitary permit was approved. The board discussed the installation of a water pump in the campground. There will be little cost as the labor is done by the village with a tie in to the current water supply. The board approved the installation.
