Wisconsin Teens and Young Adults More Likely to Visit Emergency Room for Heat Related Illnesses
Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 -- 7:39 AM
(WRN) -New data from Minnesota and Wisconsin shows teens and young adults are more likely to make emergency room visits for heat related illnesses. The finding was a surprise since the majority of public health alerts during heat waves are focused on the very young and very old, since they are at a higher risk for death and longer hospitalizations. There were just over 7500 heat related emergency room visits in Wisconsin and just under 8500 in Minnesota during the last ten years.
Symptoms of heat illness include feeling weak, dizzy, nauseated or having muscle cramps.
