We don't see an end to this pandemic." That's what Marshfield aldermen were told by Marshfield Clinic Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bill Melms at their recent meeting.
According to WDLB Radio, the Common Council was getting an update on concerns regarding COVID-19, and Melms told aldermen that numbers within the Marshfield Clinic Health System parallel the state in terms of cases and hospitalizations. Melms also said he's got grave concerns with Thanksgiving here, and people gathering with family and friends. Melms also said the clinic is working to get travelling nurses into the Clinic system. Meanwhile, the Council generally agreed to start leaning more toward remote meetings in the immediate future, to practice and promote social distancing and limited gatherings.
Alderman Adam Fischer said the city still needs to find a way to engage the public. Alderman Tom Witzel wanted aldermen to have the option of attending meetings virtually or in person. No official vote was taken on the matter. The Council on Monday night is scheduled to hold a public hearing on next year’s proposed budget, which does include a sizable tax increase. Anyone interested in making comments will be allowed to do so inside the Council Chambers at City Hall.
