Tuesday, June 4th, 2019 -- 8:48 AM
-The Owen City Council heard the Owen-Withee Police Commission Report at their meeting last week. The chair of the commission reported that a new full time officer was sworn in and the timing for the officer joining the force couldn’t have been better as their part-time officer has been covering more shifts for Abby-Colby, his other place of employment, because of recent occurrences in that area. The city clerk requested permission to find out prices and availability for an audit of the Police Commission and Harold Wolfgram was approved as the official attorney for the Commission. Also they will look into the cost of upgrading the mobile speed sign the city shares with Thorp. The two other traffic speed signs are up in both Owen and Withee. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, an individual introduced herself and told about her new business she will be starting at 218 N. Central Ave, Suite 2.
The Grand Opening is planned for Owen Days. An alderman said people had been inquiring as to when something was going to be done with the house at 525 E. 4th St, owned by Tom Lang out of Spencer. He has been in the process of tearing it down. The city clerk and Owen-WIthee police chief have reached out to him numerous times and will continue to do so. The police report was also presented and the council approved several operator licenses.
