(WRN) -Governor Evers and Congressman Ron Kind joined Stevens Point area state representative Katrina Shankland for a town hall on healthcare last week.At this weekend's State Democratic Convention, the party reiterated its goal of getting approval for federal expansion of Medicaid and healthcare in the state. At a town hall meeting in Stevens Point last week, Congressman Ron Kind says that money is already being sent to the federal government by Wisconsin taxpayers.
"All we're saying, let's bring it back to the state of Wisconsin, put it to work here, so we have a world class healthcare system."
Evers says that expansion is the best way to ensure fair coverage for all Wisconsinites.
"75 million people in this country are covered by this expansion opportunity. We want to make sure that our state and the people of our state have that same opportunity."
Shankland says she's heard about healthcare from plenty of her constituents.
"And just getting my coffee people were asking about the budget. They were asking about Medicaid expansion. They wanted it to pass. And several of my constituents who came to my office hours brought up healthcare. The cost of healthcare and connected it to Medicaid expansion understanding that it would help."
Republicans took the expansion out of their version of the state budget at Joint Finance last month. Democrats are asking Wisconsinites to contact their representatives and ask for supporting the federal expansion. That's likely to be a talking point of Democrats all the way through the elections next year.
