(WRN) -Republicans on the legislature's Joint Finance Committee have rejected Governor Tony Evers' proposed funding for the U-W System. The Democratic governor had requested a 130 million dollar increase for the two year budget cycle. The GOP majority approved about 58 million. Forty-five million of that would be subject to later committee approval after the UW provides a report on how it would spend the money. JFC co-chair, Representative John Nygren, said that will provide flexibility to the system, and accountability to taxpayers.
After the vote, U-W System President Ray Cross decried what he called a "missed opportunity." Cross said, "I feel like I've been kicked in the shins."
