(WRN) -Republicans on the Joint finance committee have approved a pared-down version of Governor Evers' request for more funding for tourism.Republicans on the Joint finance committee have approved a pared-down version of Governor Evers' request for more funding for tourism. Part of that will include the creation of an office of outdoor recreation. State representative Chris Taylor says there needs to be coordination between the Department of Tourism and the D N R on this issue.
"We know there is an economic, a strong economic correlation between our pristine natural environment and our economy."
Taylor says that's vital and something that needs to get greater focus.
"The number one marketable reason for travel to our state is outdoor recreation. It's the number one reason people come here from outside the state."
Republicans approved that measure, but only on a two-year basis. They also approved hiring people to make social media advertising for the state, while turning down a general increase in marketing spending for the department.
