State Lawmakers Already Arguing Over State Surplus

Thursday, May 16th, 2019 -- 8:44 AM

(WRN) -The state of Wisconsin has a 700 million dollar revenue surplus.

That projection is from the Legislative Fiscal Bureau. Joint Finance Committee co-chair, Representative John Nygren, said that the entire 700 million ought to be put in the state's rainy day fund, to prepare for a recession. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald may want to use some of the money for things like building maintenance and roads.

Governor Tony Evers wants 15 million dollars for worker training and an 18-million dollar increase for the state's Technical Colleges System. He said the rest can go to rainy day fund.
