Wisconsin's Cheese Output Down in March

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Total cheese output in America's Dairyland was down again in March when compared to the same time during the previous year, making it the fourth consecutive month of lower production.The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that state dairy plants made 293.3 million pounds of cheese in March, which was down 0.7 percent from a year earlier, but rose 12.4 percent from this past February, which had less days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.1 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in March. That was 0.7 percent more than the same month in 2018, but 11 percent more than the previous month's production totals.
Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 23.5 million pounds, which was down 27.9 percent from last year, but 14.9 percent more compared to last month.
