Neillsville City Council Approves a Few Items

Thursday, April 25th, 2019 -- 10:56 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved a few items at their meeting on Tuesday.

The council approved the asphalt bid from American Asphalt and they approved a Task Order with AECOM for identifying a potential well site with a cost not to exceed $24,274. Finally, they approved a preliminary resolution declaring the intent to levy special assessments for Willow Street curb and gutter. The council also heard the Police and Fire Commission Report from Wednesday, April 10th. They discussed the hiring of a new police chief for Neillsville at this meeting. The council also heard the Board of Health Report from April 16th. The city’s health officer presented information to the board on the various health issues around the city. Finally, the council heard the Public Works Report. Public Works Director Dave Flynn stated the usual amount of work was done in the city, including cemetery and parks maintenance, equipment maintenance, trimming and pruning trees, maintaining street lighting, filling pot holes, hauling brush and compost, street sweeping, opening storm drains and more. Dave also mentioned the spring clean-up is next week.

Also, the Water Department repaired a leaking shut off on East 6th and Willow Street and they’re cleaning up some winter water leaks. They’re also in the process of evaluating upgrades to water meter readings. The Sewer Department did some lift station maintenance and repair and replacing some pumps. They also had some issues with back-ups into basements with last week’s heavy rains. Finally, Dave mentioned that they received numerous complaints of plowed in driveways and slow response time to the last winter storm we had. Dave admitted that they didn’t respond as soon as they would have liked. However, the department doesn’t have someone that checks to see how conditions are. Dave stated they rely on the police department for that and they haven’t been called as soon as they’d like, especially since the purchase of the Tahoe by the department. Dave has spoken with the department about the matter.
