-The Highground’s Annual Bike Tour is growing stronger in its 35th year. The Annual Highground Bike Tour is a very unique bicycling event with a long history. 2019 marks the 35th Anniversary of the Bike Tour. The event began as one man, Highground founder Tom Miller, pedaled 1,244 miles, roughly circling the state of Wisconsin, in 1984. His ride was to raise funding and awareness of the need for a Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which became The Highground. Tom’s bike tour was repeated in 1985, this time joined by a few other hardy bicyclists with the goal of developing the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial close to their hearts. The Highground Bike Tour has been held ever since then, unbroken, for 35 years. This is a large accomplishment for any event, much less an event that encompasses several routes across Wisconsin in a multi-day tour.
The event is the largest single annual fundraiser for The Highground, currently bringing in an average of $45,000. The ride includes over 150 riders. For more information, contact The Highground at 715-743-4224 or check out their website. Also, the Northern Route of the Bike Tour is holding a Brat Sale at Hansen’s IGA on Wednesday, May 1st beginning at 10am. All proceeds from the event will go to the Northern Route of The Highground’s Bike Tour.
