NEW AMERICAN LEGION FUNDRAISING UNDERWAY
Monday, November 29th, 2004 -- 10:56 AM
With ground to be broken in the spring, the fundraising continues for the future Neillsville American Legion Post 73 building.DeWayne Seelow is the fundraising campaign co-chair. He says over $10,000 has already been raised toward the $750,000 goal. The new building will be located in the Boon Commercial Park near the Super 8 Motel and will provide an additional 4,000 square feet and it will be handicapped accessible ? which was a main consideration in the Legion?s decision to look into a new facility.
The current facility has served as the Legion?s meeting place since 1948 and it?s projected that the new building should meet Legion and community needs through 2060. There has already been one fundraiser with more to come, plus, the fundraising committee will be approaching service clubs, philanthropic groups like the Listeman Foundation, and the public in the hopes of securing the needed monies.
The committee hopes to raise the $750,000 in three year; they hope to reach the $300,000 mark by the time construction begins this spring. If all goes well ? and the weather cooperates ? the new Legion Hall could be open by the end of next summer.
