(WRN) -State Republicans rolled out their plans for new environmental legislation on Monday for Earth Day.State Republicans rolled out their plans for new environmental legislation on Monday for Earth Day. Chief among the programs is an effort to increase electric vehicle charging stations in the state and to increase renewable energy rebates. State Representative Adam Neylon calls it a market-based initiative.
"There is mutual benefits to both the consumer and to the companies that want to provide renewable energies."
Neylon says Republicans want to see more electric vehicle stations across more of the state.
"The cost is coming down, there's an increased demand, we think this will help kind of kickstart that."
Neylon says the efforts are part of the G O P's commitment to the environment in honor of Earth Day.
"I think there's a lot of reasons to care. For economics to the environment, but ultimately it's about leaving the world a better place than we found it."
Neylon says they'll also be working to improve funding for the state's wildlife stewardship fund, as well as push for better access to electronics recycling for municipalities. They're also looking to expand rebates for using renewable energy, and looking to increase funding to train solar and wind energy careers. The bills are set to be introduced to the legislature later this session.
