Former Jackson County Village Clerk Enters Plea for Fraud

-A former village clerk accused of stealing from the Village of Merrillan entered a plea in Jackson County Court on Monday.According to the criminal complaint, 63-year-old Debra Green was using village money to make personal purchases from December of 2014 to August of 2017. She told investigators that she made the purchases, but just forgot to pay the village back. She’s also accused of taking extra vacation days she wasn’t eligible for.
Green is facing ten charges including fraudulent use of a credit card, unauthorized use of an entity’s identifying information and more. She stood mute in court on Monday, so a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf. She’ll be back in court in June.
