Farmers in Southwest Wisconsin Harvested the Most Alfalf Hay in 2018

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Farmers in southwest Wisconsin harvested the most alfalfa hay during the 2018 growing season.According to newly released figures from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service, nearly 513,500 tons of hay was made in that district; followed by the West Central district with 344,300 tons. Grant County produced the largest hay crop last year with 92,500, followed by Vernon, Clark, Sauk and Iowa Counties, respectively. Grant also led the state for average yield with 2.75 tons per acre. Iowa, Sawyer, Pierce and Marathon rounded out the top four.
Meanwhile, the North Central district of Wisconsin was the leading region for all other hay produced with 255,000 tons. But the highest yields for other hay were found in the Southwest District with 2.4 tons per acre.
